This is the start of my 11th year here as the Principal of John Yehall Chin Elementary School. I am very proud of the accomplishments that we as a school community have made. Hard-working, disciplined, and caring -- those are the words that I would use to describe the students here at JYC. They aim for the best, strive for the best, and do the very best that they can consistently.
Before JYC, I served as the Assistant Principal of Willow Oaks K-8 School in the Ravenswood City School District for 2 years. Prior to that, I taught 4th through 6th graders at Padan Elementary School in the Vacaville Unified School District for 4 years.
When I am not working, I enjoy spending time with my fiancee, friends, family, and last but not least, our half beagle/half basset hound Maddie and our beagle Sadie. Being a food, theater, music, and travel aficionado, my fiancee and I would love to parlay our personal interests into a small business one of these days.
This month we are going to spend a minute getting to know our librarian, Courtney Crum. Ms. Crum lives in the East Bay with her husband and two year old daughter. She enjoys traveling and getting out in nature. One of her favorite places to spend some time is at Lake Tahoe. When Ms. Crum goes to Tahoe she likes to ride in boats, go waterskiing, snowskiing, and hiking.
Just like you would expect from a librarian, she loves to read. Ms. Crum's favorite books are full of humor, action and adventure. She especially loves books by Rick Riordon and Shel Silverstein. She used to read Shel Silverstein books as a child and is having a great time sharing them with her daughter. One of Ms. Crum's biggest projects this Summer was designing our school's website, which will give you an opportunity to get to know John Yehall Chin a little better by providing you with ways to get in touch with the JYC community online.
